What do FEMA flood-zone codes mean?
Flood zones describe mapped flood-hazard context. The exact designation, supporting elevation data, map effective date, and site conditions should be reviewed together.
Special Flood Hazard Areas
These zones generally represent areas with at least a 1% annual chance of flooding. Available base flood elevation, depth, and velocity information varies by zone and location.
Coastal high-hazard areas
V zones identify coastal flood exposure with additional wave-action hazards. VE zones generally include established base flood elevations.
Moderate or minimal mapped hazard
Shaded Zone X commonly represents the 0.2% annual-chance floodplain. Unshaded Zone X generally represents minimal mapped hazard, but it does not mean zero flood risk.
Undetermined flood hazard
Possible flood hazards may exist, but FEMA has not completed the analysis needed to determine the level of mapped risk.

What flood zone am I in?

Can I check a FEMA flood zone by address?

Is Zone X considered a flood zone?

Does being outside a Special Flood Hazard Area mean there is no flood risk?
